The Talking Pig

I've put in some new measures to deal with my Advanced class as we start a new show. First, I gave them a new seating chart today. I generally don't use seating charts outside of beginning drama after the first few weeks but I want to break up the cliques. So I staggered people so they aren't right next to their friends. If they want to talk, they'll have to meet new people.

Second, we brought in the "talking pig" which is our version of a talking stick. The pig has been sort of a class mascot since last year, so now whoever has the pig gets to talk when we are having discussions as a class. It feels slighty Lord of the Flies but it helps. We did it once and then today my kids asked to bring it back.

Third, really get student feedback on what they want the show to look like. I tend towards minimalist shows. I hate dealing with props, costumes and set. But today they said they really wanted to include all of that in this upcoming show. We have time if we start now, so I'm going to try it, much as I loathe it. Heaven help me. They are excited about the show and I want to preserve that.
